Neo, a blockchain platform and dApp ecosystem, today revealed the new brand identity for Neo’s latest version, N3. Neo 3.0 was first announced by Erik Zhang in July 2018. It promised features like a new architecture, native contracts, and an improved economic model.
N3 is the next version of the Neo blockchain. To draw another line between 3.0 and its predecessor, Neo 2.x (the current Neo blockchain) will be called Neo Legacy.
The N3 version has many new features that are incompatible with 2.x. Therefore, Neo N3 will start on a new chain from a new Genesis block.
Two versions of the Neo blockchain are running at the same time. In order to give the users enough time to migrate to N3, the existing 2.x chain is supported long-term.
By entering the 2.x chain, Neo Legacy is notifying users that it is being replaced and will not receive any further updates in the future. When users see the two chains side by side in a wallet or explorer, they don’t have to think twice about which is the newest network.
After starting the test network; Neo will launch a new website, new grant opportunities, new hackathon events, new adoption incentives, and other initiatives on the mainnet journey.
“Platform-native decentralized storage, oracles, and name service are just a few of the features that make Neo the most complete blockchain development platform available today. N3 is a contraction of “Neo3”. The term was adopted throughout 3.0 development. It is a nod to our journey and embodies many of the same qualities as the software version it represents: brave, refined, simple, and powerful. It also offers modularity. With N3 we can separate the version brand from the core brand Neo. something impossible with the name “Neo3”. This new branding architecture enables us to market our major versions to developers. without breaking the regular user’s relationship with the neo core identity. In the short to medium term, you can expect the N3 logo to show up quite a lot as we tell the world that there is something new to see at Neo. In general, however, casual users will recognize Neo by its existing brand in the years to come.
