Moonbeam, an Ethereum-compliant smart contract platform based on Polkadot, today announced the completion of a testnet integration of ChainBridge, a modular multi-directional bridge built by ChainSafe. This is the first bridge between Ethereum and the Moonbeam parachute on Polkadot and enables asset transfers between the two independent chains.
Moonbeam’s Ethereum-friendly design has made it an ideal expansion point for many Solidity-based projects that want access to the growing Polkadot ecosystem. Projects on the Moonbeam testnet need a working bridge to connect their multi-chain deployments, and projects dedicated to Polkadot only want access to ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens available on Ethereum today. The Chain bridge The use on Moonbeam removes this obstacle to enable the free transport of tokens between the sovereign chains.
“ChainBridge was our answer to the need for objectivity, sustainability and collaboration of open source protocols. Our goal is to enable projects to interact with one another using simple and easy integration. Working together is good for the entire garden, and it makes competitors see a value that goes beyond zero-sum thinking. “
– Aidan Hyman, Founder and CEO of ChainSafe
This instance of the bridge was deployed between Kovan, the Ethereum test network, and Moonbase Alpha, the Moonbeam test network. It simplifies the process of transferring between independent / sovereign networks by activating transactions in one chain which are then relayed and carried out over subsequent transactions in the other. The Moonbeam team plans to make the bridge available in a MainNet environment as soon as parachain functionality is enabled for Kusama and Polkadot, which is expected later this year.
“The Moonbeam team is constantly working to simplify the process for Ethereum-based projects that are to be rolled out to Polkadot. Through our work with ChainSafe on the ChainBridge project, we can offer a fully functional bridge from the Moonbeam parachute to Ethereum. “
– Derek Yoo, CEO of PureStake and founder of the Moonbeam project
In preparation for the launch of ChainBridge, the Moonbeam team created some tutorials to move ERC-20 and ERC-721 from Ethereum to Moonbeam. For more information on integration and testing, see the Moonbeam Documentation tutorials.
