The chart, an indexing and query layer for the decentralized web, is now integrated with Avalanche, a scalable decentralized intelligent contract platform with near-instant transaction finality.
With The Graph’s integration with the hosted service, developers building on Avalanche can easily query custom data requests on the chain without running a full node, through subgraphs, which are indices of specifically defined blockchain Data is involved. By February 2021, over 9,000 subgraphs had been deployed, many of them going online as The Graph continues to expand its support for key Layer 1 blockchains.
“Decentralized, reliable data form the core of high-quality Web3 applications. The chart’s suite of data and tools expand the options and capabilities for developers building on Avalanche, ”said John Wu, president of Ava Labs.
The expanded access to blockchain data has not gone unnoticed by the Web3 developer community. In January 2021, the service hosted by The Graph surged to over 11 billion, with growth being 100x in 2020.
This growth is also reflected in Avalanche. Since the launch of the Avalanche-Ethereum Bridge (AEB) on February 8, 2021, the activity of smart contracts at Avalanche has boomed. Transactions increased by 2,007% to over 1,140,000 and the number of unique wallets by 2,834% to over 63,000.
Both Avalanche and The Graph aim for a more open, decentralized future for Internet applications. Improving the developer infrastructure and tools will ultimately lead to the fulfillment of this vision and bring greater benefit to dapp developers and end users.
The power of decentralized indexing
The diagram completely decentralizes the API and query layers of Web3. Subgraphs (open APIs) allow developers to index, map, and query on-chain data using GraphQL, the protocol’s native query language, without running local or hosted nodes. Instead, the subgraphs are provided in a registry. Then indexers that deploy and execute a diagram node index the subgraph.
This process allows anyone to create and deploy a subgraph and earn The Graph’s native token $ GRT as a reward for running a Graph node. End-to-end there are no central intermediaries who control this process. The data is open and accessible to all network participants.
For developers, this means lower costs and shorter development times, since indexing blockchains have fewer participants and trust is infinitely greater since subgraphs are managed by a decentralized network of nodes. The more nodes join The Graph, the stronger the network becomes.
Use the chart to create powerful dapps for avalanches
Dapp developers can build powerful applications by combining the power, speed and ease of use unlocked by The Graph with the support of Avalanche.
Applications deployed on Avalanche benefit from near-instant transaction finality and thousands of transactions per second, while developers using The Graph’s simple, responsive, and customizable queries have complete control over the use of on-chain data. Interacting with other blockchains will also be seamless thanks to The Graph’s large, diverse sub-graphs.
Developers can secure on-chain data with Avalanche and build a complete off-chain ecosystem with The Graph – all in a completely trustworthy way. Together, these technologies open the door for more developers to accelerate the path from idea to app to market impact.
