One of the largest gaming companies in the world joins Decentraland. Atari classics are supported in the popular Ethereum app.
Atari joins the Metaverse
Atari, the pioneering game developer who laid the foundation for early video game culture, is moving to Web3.
The American company works with Decentraland, a popular virtual game world that runs on Ethereum. Decentraland pointed out the news early this morning and shared a digital artwork with the Decentraland and Atari logos.

In a private conversation with Crypto Briefing, Decentraland’s Community and Event Manager Sam Hamilton shared all the details of the partnership. “Atari is a cult brand that goes very well with it [Decentraland], “he said. Add:
“The games are easy to transport and inspire the“ Ready Player One ”generation. So it was a breeze to work with them. They also have classic games that can be revived for a new generation. “
Atari will take over a large property from Decentraland Metaverse. Inside, players can experience Atari’s catalog of retro arcade games including Pong, Break-Out !, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Centipede.
In addition, there will be space for new games created by the community as part of a “Game Jam”.
Decentraland Avatars can wear officially licensed Atari merchandise available through the Decentraland Marketplace.
Classic gaming in Ethereum
The Atari token, the gaming titan’s cryptocurrency introduced last year, is also used in the game.
The company announced the introduction of its own token in November. It’s an ERC-20 token, which means it will run on Ethereum.
As such, it will be easily compatible with Decentraland.
The partnership is the second step in a few months, suggesting that Atari is heavily reliant on blockchain, especially Ethereum.
Along with news from musicians and big sports teams rolling out social tokens and adding to the hype surrounding the NFT space, the partnership between Decentraland and Atari is another piece of news that shows Ethereum is growing beyond DeFi.
The collaboration will start next month.
