George Harrap, who previously ran Hong Kong-based blockchain remittance startup Bitspark as CEO, is moving to head DeFi at PR company YAP Global, which focuses on fintech and cryptocurrency.
In an announcement on Wednesday, YAP Global said the new hiring will help bridge the communication gap between mainstream media and decentralized funding (DeFi).
In his new role, Harrap will support the PR team and help break down the complexities of emerging technologies like DeFi through “knowledge calls” and lessons.
According to the company, while many DeFi platforms have reached millions of users, the existing institutions lack the knowledge of how the emerging industry works.
“I’ve been into crypto for a decade now and DeFi has just as excited me as it was when I mined my first bitcoin,” Harrap told CoinDesk. “DEXs continue to compete for centralized exchanges, the ability to get a loan in two minutes – this time it’s not just about building a SoV, it’s building a financial system.”
“For the industry to be successful, however, we have to resolve its complexity in order to better inform the media and thus also the users about it. I want to help fill this knowledge gap, ”he said.
Samantha Yap, Founder and CEO of YAP Global, commented, “We’re excited to have one of the key trainers in not only blockchain and cryptocurrencies, but also decentralized finance joining the team. George does an excellent job turning engineering projects into easy-to-understand To disassemble explanations. “
